When I joined RWA Pharmacy in January 2018, I started as a trainee Tableau developer, focused on learning the fundamentals of pharmacy data and how insight could support better business decisions.
What I didn’t realise at the time was just how much my role would grow, both in scope and responsibility. Over the years, I’ve progressed through data analysis roles and now work as a Project Manager, combining technical understanding with delivery, collaboration, and customer support.
My journey at RWA reflects something I value deeply about the business: roles evolve as people grow. I don’t sit neatly within one function, and that’s intentional. My work spans analysis, development, project management, and customer engagement, allowing me to see challenges from multiple perspectives and help teams move forward together.
My day usually starts with project management. I’m involved early in integration projects, gathering requirements, understanding what customers need from the data, and balancing that with what’s technically possible. That means setting priorities, coordinating resources, and managing expectations in a fast‑moving environment.
It’s a constant challenge, but one I genuinely enjoy, particularly when it results in delivering something that works well for both the customer and the team.
At its core, my role is about making sure pharmacy data is accurate, trusted, and genuinely useful. On any given day, that might involve developing new dashboards, responding to customer queries, or digging into discrepancies within the data. Validation is a major part of this work. If figures don’t align between pharmacy systems and our reporting, insight quickly loses its value, so accuracy is always the priority.
Alongside this, I work closely with both backend and frontend teams, helping to bridge the gap between technical delivery and customer requirements. Over the past few years, I’ve also taken on responsibility for training and supporting junior team members, helping them build confidence not just in their technical skills, but in their understanding of pharmacy data and how it’s used in practice.
Some of the most rewarding work I’ve done has been on projects that bring long‑term value to customers. I’ve been closely involved in developing dashboards for UK pharmacies, helping improve visibility around margins, compliance, and operational performance.
More recently, I’ve been leading a major upgrade of our Irish pharmacy system, modernising a long‑standing platform and bringing it up to speed with the latest technology. This work has delivered significant performance improvements and greater consistency across customers, which has been a long‑term goal for the product.
Another major project has been our work with Boots, integrating a new PMR and developing enhanced financial reporting. This has involved building margin analysis models that provide clarity around cost prices, regional performance, and compliance.
What matters most to me is how these projects translate into real‑world benefits for pharmacies. Many customers don’t realise where money is being lost until the data makes it visible. By identifying margin leakage, compliance issues, or inefficiencies early, we help pharmacies act before problems become more serious.
This is where pharmacy business intelligence really proves its value. It’s not just about reporting what has already happened, but about giving customers the insight they need to make informed decisions with confidence.
The pharmacy industry is under increasing pressure, with funding constraints, regulatory changes, and evolving NHS requirements all playing a role. In this environment, timely and trustworthy data is more important than ever. I believe our role at RWA is to stay ahead of these changes, understand their impact, and help customers prepare rather than react.
There’s a lot of conversation around AI in data analytics, and while it has its place, human judgment remains essential - context, experience, and understanding are what turn data into insight. My ambition is to continue delivering solutions that combine strong technology with that human element, helping customers see clearly where they stand and where they can improve.
